American actor David Birney has sadly passed away. He was known for his appearance in the 1970s sitcom ‘Bridget Loves Bernie’ as struggling writer Bernie Steinberg. Reportedly, the actor took his last breath on Friday, April 29, 2022. David Birney was 83-year-old at the time of his demise. The film and television industry is mourning the actor’s sudden death and is paying him heartfelt tributes on social media. Meredith Baxter, David’s co-star, and ex-wife expressed her sadness at his death. Baxter said that her heart goes out to their children Mollie, Peter, and Kate.
Paying tributes to David Birney, Meredith Baxter said that she was very saddened by the death of the former and said that her heart goes out to their children who are left in profound grief. Meredith calls David a dominant influence in their lives and said that his loss will be deeply felt. According to reports, David was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive neurologic disorder that causes the brain to shrink and brain cells to die.

David’s ex-wife sent love and support to Michele Roberge, his life partner, and said that she took good care of him for so many years. Talking about David Birney and Meredith Baxter, the couple tied the knot in 1974. After living together for some time, they parted ways in 1989. It is reported that Baxter had accused the actor of abuse in her book titled “Untied: A Memoir of Family, Fame, and Floundering”, released in 2011. However, David had denied those allegations at that time and called her claims “an appalling abuse of the truth”.

The show had received backlash from Jewish groups for its portrayal of interfaith marriage and Jewish stereotypes resulting in getting canceled after one season.
