Just hours after receiving his first Tony nomination for his role in the revival of Take Me Out, Jesse Williams was trending on social media for a much more revealing reason.
Take Me Out had been in previews since March 20 and officially opened on April 4, with a brief video from a full frontal nude scene featuring Williams’ penis in full view, leaking online on Monday, just hours after his Tony nomination.
How the video leaked is quite the mystery, since those who attend the Broadway show are required to lock their phones in Yondr pouches during the show.

Take Me Out is set largely within the locker room of a Major League Baseball team, written by Richard Greenburg, with the original Broadway play winning Best Play at the 2003 Tony Awards.
The revival opened at the Hayes Theater on Broadway, with Williams playing the main character Darren Lemming, who many have speculated is inspired by New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter.
The play features a shower scene where most of the cast – including Patrick J. Adams and Jesse Tyler Ferguson – go naked, which is the scene that was somehow filmed and leaked.

Williams didn’t comment on the video leak, though he did take to Instagram to share a brief video of his nomination and a brief message.
‘No words , just gratitude. A student in a sea of teachers,’ he said in the post, which revealed he’s nominated alongside his co-stars Ferguson and Michael Oberholtzer.
He is also vying for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play against Alfie Allen (Hangmen), Chuck Cooper (Trouble In Mind) and Ron Cephas Jones (Clyde’s).

The play follows Williams’ character, a star center fielder for the Empires, who comes out as gay.
‘The reception off the field reveals a barrage of long-held unspoken prejudices,’ reads the play’s description.
‘Facing some hostile teammates and fraught friendships, Darren is forced to contend with the challenges of being a gay person of color within the confines of a classic American institution,’ the description adds.
