He was the guest of honour at Thursday evening’s amfAR Gala in Cannes, which went on during the annual film festival.
And Robert De Niro seemed to be enjoying his evening as he sat for a chat with Leonardo DiCaprio, who kept a very low profile throughout the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc bash.
The 78-year-old movie legend donned a black tuxedo for the evening, as appeared in deep conversation with the Wolf Of Wall Street actor.
However his appearance was overshadowed by tragedy as news broke of former Goodfellas co-star Ray Liotta’s sudden death at the age of 67.
Liotta, best known for his portrayal of gangster Henry Hill opposite De Niro and Joe Pesci, died in his sleep on Thursday while filming in the Dominican Republic.

Sitting next to De Niro – who had earlier paid tribute to the late actor – Leonardo donned a simple black shirt, covering his face with a black New York Yankees baseball cap.
He wrapped an arm around the honourary guest, before leaning back as De Niro flashed his famous smile.
Leonardo kept his appearance unknown for most of the evening, keeping his hat on after skipping the opportunity for red carpet snaps.

Enjoying his evening, De Niro was also snapped chatting to Edgar Ramirez and businessman Hermann Buehlbecker.
He later made his way to the stage, shaking hands with auctioneer Simon de Pury before chatting to the crowd.

The event also featured live performances by Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin and Charli XCX, cocktails, dinner and an exciting live auction led by renowned auctioneer Simon.
