Tanner Neale, 94, of Webster Groves, passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2019, at Holy Family Memorial Hospital in St. Louis after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Tanner was born on Jan. 11, 1922, in Webster Groves to the late John and Nellie (Bagby) Neale. Tanner was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Army as a B-24 Liberator bombardier with the 455th Bomb Group based in England and France. After the war, he attended Webster University where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1948 and his law degree from Washington University School of Law in 1951. Tanner was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1951 and commenced practice in Webster Groves with his father John Neale as his partner. Tanner retired from practicing law in 1984 and began his second career as an insurance agent with Harper Insurance Company where he worked until his retirement in 1999. Tanner was also active in community affairs serving as president of the Webster Groves Chamber of Commerce from 1976 to 1978 and as a member of the Webster Groves City Council from 1977 to 1981. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 28514
