Ed Shields Butler Death, Not Obituary; On Thursday afternoon, a crash that occurred on Route 8 resulted in the death of a man who was 86 years old. Deputy Coroner Larry Barr confirmed that Ed Shields, the proprietor of Ed Shields Realtor in Penn Township, passed away as a result of the collision, which took place at approximately 4:05 p.m. at the intersection of Route 8 and East Airport Road.


The driver of a white Toyota reportedly tried to make a left turn from the southbound lane of Route 8 onto East Airport Road, but he or she did not allow sufficient time for the driver of the other vehicle, a navy blue Toyota that was traveling north on Route 8, to come to a complete stop. The collision caused significant damage to both automobiles.

The man who was driving the other vehicle, a Butler resident, was injured as well but elected not to be transported to the hospital after the collision. According to the police, neither vehicle had any additional passengers inside of it.

Tom Lasky, who worked with Shields at Ed Shields Realtor located on Route 8, stated that Shields was still “very active” in his business and that he was present in the office earlier in the day on Thursday. Tom Lasky worked with Shields at Ed Shields Realtor.

Lasky, who had worked with Shields for approximately 40 years, stated that the latter’s passing will have an effect on more people than just his immediate family and friends.

“He was at the office six days a week,” Lasky said. “Where we go from here, I have no idea.”

Following the collision, one of the lanes on Route 8 heading north was closed, and traffic was rerouted for approximately one hour. Additionally, East Airport Road was made inaccessible at the intersection.

The accident drew the attention of police officers from both Penn Township and Middlesex Township, as well as the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Butler Ambulance Service.
