Lopez-Calleja, born in 1960, former son-in-law of Raul Castro, division commander, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (the only legal Politburo of the Central Committee), executive chairman of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Cuban Central Committee, Armed Forces Industry and Commerce Management Group (Gaesa). State media Granma and Juventud Rebelde expressed “deep sadness” over the death of López-Calleja – seen as a key figure in the country despite his frequent work behind the scenes – which they described as “for the motherland and the world. “Country” emphasizes the Cuban Revolution.
