The British Grand Prix was called off before the conclusion of the first lap after two massive collisions involving many drivers on the pit straight resulted in Zhou Guanyu Alfa Romeo ending up on the wrong side of the tire boundaries at Turn 1.
Zhou and Williams driver Alex Albon were immediately transported to the clinical focus by crisis groups. Both were released from Coventry Hospital after being treated for significant wounds.
A playback showed Pierre Gasly wedged between George Russell and Zhou on one side. With contact between Gasly and Russell, Russell’s Mercedes collides with Zhou’s Alfa Romeo.
The intensity of the succeeding effect sent Zhou Guanyu’s car topsy-turvy through the run-off section before barrel-turning over the impediments, only to be stopped by the catch wall before a show-off.
Later, Zhou Guanyu remarked that Formula One’s Halo cockpit insurance “saved my life.”
The Halo presented in F1 before the 2018 season, on the other hand, was controversial with several conservatives, and it was a significant departure from the exposed appearance of cars.
The device most likely rescued Charles Leclerc from a significant physical ailment during that year’s Belgian Grand Prix, and it has been credited for saving drivers in various situations. Albon involved in a different incident just minutes following Zhou’s tragedy. Sebastian Vettel climbed into the back of his Williams after hitting the brakes for the underlying crash, and Albon thrown into the pit wall before bouncing back onto the track. Yuki Tsunoda and Esteban Ocon collided on the track.
The race red-hailed shortly after the collisions as the pioneers approached the Wellington Straight, halting the race.
Separate from the collisions, protesters spilled onto the track farther around the lap.
The race resumed at 3:56 p.m. local time.
